A capybara who moved into the Zoological Wildlife Foundation in Miami on Christmas Eve, quickly rose to fame with a video that received over 140 million views
This talented capybara knew fame before she even knew her own name.
A capybara who moved into the Zoological Wildlife Foundation in Miami (ZWF Miami) on Dec. 24 quickly became a favorite at the Florida zoo after the facility posted a video of the large rodent dancing on Instagram.
In the clip posted on Jan. 4, the female capybara wades through the water feature in her habitat by walking on her back legs with her arms out. The animal’s slow-motion stroll through the water almost looks like she is performing the iconic dance from Michael Jackson’s mega-hit “Thriller,” an observation ZWF Miami pointed out in its post.
“Our natural born entertainer giving her best #thriller dance impression on a morning dip @zwfmiami,” ZWF Miami captioned in the video, which has received over 140 million views and 9 million likes on Instagram.
The zoo also used the viral post to ask their over 1 million followers for name ideas for the capybara. After giving animal lovers several days to send suggestions, ZWF Miami announced on Tuesday that the zoo decided on the name Eve.
A fan suggested the name, according to a follow-up Instagram post from ZWF Miami, because that capybara arrived at the zoo on Christmas Eve.
ZWF Miami’s founders look forward to caring for Eve and watching her bring joy to zoo guests for years to come.
“It’s incredible how the little things make such a difference to our guests. Seeing the smiles on the faces of our guests who visit ZWF gives us such gratification,” zoo founders Maria and Mario Tabraue shared in a statement to PEOPLE. “Our newest addition, Eve, the baby capybara, has become a worldwide sensation. Plus, it has brought much joy and love into our lives that we want to share with our guests.”
Eve has officially moved into her public-facing habitat at ZWF Miami and is ready to meet her adoring public.
